Performance & Utilization Reviews (PUR) is often a precursor to a Pre-Start Health & Safety Review (PSR) . A PUR appraises two important, yet different characteristics of your facility.
- The Performance review evaluates whether the storage equipment and its layout allows for an efficient operation of the lift trucks, long term durability of the storage equipment, and optimum storage density. In short, it addresses the question "do I have an optimum storage solution".
- The Utilization review addresses the usage of the storage equipment in its current form. This part of the review addresses whether the storage equipment is correctly installed, maintained without damage, properly loaded, and configured within its capacity limitations. This part of the review addresses the question, "am I using the storage equipment properly".
If your company uses storage equipment, and places a high priority on having a safe work environment, then performing PUR may be a good first step. It allows your health and safety team the opportunity to identify the issues and make the appropriate changes or modifications. Once the modifications are made, a Pre-Start Health & Safety Review (PSR) will bring you into compliance with Regulation 851 without your health & safety committee having to address a list of deficiencies.
